Humanity and Kindness

imageOh, how I miss this sweet face! So many of my friends have lost their beloved dogs recently. Even though my little girl has been gone almost three years now, it feels more recent.

I found this quote several years ago, and it always makes me laugh:

“I would rather have a good, funny loyal dog than a man. It’s taken me a few years to come to that conclusion, and I’m happier for it.” -Anonymous

Dogs really are so much more loyal and consistent than humans. They’re always there for you, good cuddlers, and excellent listeners. It’s no wonder we love them so much!

It seems the only fault dogs have is a relatively short life. Although we know that going in, we willfully do it anyway. I think we do so because we know that the greatest gift a dog brings to anyone is a keener sense of humanity. The fact that your dog loves you unconditionally, inspires within you to give back the same, you care for it and it takes care of you.

There may not be anything else in this life that is so perfect, so seminal or so rewarding as the bond we have with our dogs. It could possibly be a time when we are at our best. I know that I am.

And when it’s time to go our separate ways we do so with profound sadness, respect and with profound love. We will always carry the memories that will make us smile and although we will also cry a lot, I think that is OK. It means it’s working, that the humanity and kindness our dog gave to us and inspired in us lives on and that is not a bad thing… ❤️
