Second Sight

Sometimes, you need the ocean light,
and colors you’ve never seen before
painted through an evening sky.

Sometimes you need your God
to be a simple invitation,
not a telling word of wisdom.

Sometimes you need only the first shyness
that comes from being shown things
far beyond your understanding,

so that you can fly and become free
by being still and by being still here.

And then there are times you need to be
brought to ground by touch
and touch alone.

To know those arms around you
and to make your home in the world.
just by being wanted.

To see those eyes looking back at you,
as eyes should see you at last,

seeing you, as you always wanted to be seen,
seeing you, as you yourself
had always wanted to see the world.

– David Whyte
from Pilgrim

For my love, his eyes see me as I have always wanted to be seen. The only one who sees the real me at all. He has shown me that I am deserving of love. That love has always been there, but I had been unwilling to accept it. Thank you for being patient with me.

“Vulnerability is not weakness. In fact, Vulnerability is the the core, the heart, the center of meaningful human experiences. Without vulnerability, there can be no love, there can be no achievement, there can be no greatness. Unfortunately, instead of developing skills of vulnerability, we too frequently develop armoring techniques. We spend all our energy avoiding getting hurt, avoiding shame. But there’s no surer way to not feel loved, not feel connected, not be fulfilled, than to practice the avoidance of vulnerability.”
– Brene Brown

I think I need to write this down and hang them up where I can see it every day, so then maybe I’ll remember it.

Anyone who looks at you and really, truly sees you is a keeper in my book!! 🙂 A rare and true find–one in a million. If anyone deserves that, it is you, dear. (((Hugs)))
