Dear Woman,
Sometimes you’ll just be too much woman
Too smart,
Too beautiful,
Too strong,
Too much of something
That makes a man feel like less of a man,
Which will make you feel like you have to be less of a woman.
The biggest mistake you can make
Is removing jewels from your crown
To make it easier for a man to carry.
When this happens, I need you to understand,
You do not need a smaller crown –
You need a man with bigger hands.

A big thank you to my Sheryl-ladycakes for sharing this earlier today. xoxo

For a good part of my life I’ve heard the declaration “You’re too …!” Anyone who has been on the receiving end of this can tell you how much self-doubt and confusion is generated when these words are uttered. Why would anyone want me to be less…me?

I remember reading this and writing it down So I wouldn’t forget: “Don’t step into lives that aren’t yours, make choices that aren’t nourishing, or dance stiffly for years with the wrong partner, or parts of yourself.” That’s some damn excellent advice. I decided never to make myself less than my authentic self for anyone ever again. It’s not always easy, but it’s always genuine. Those who are in my life truly appreciate the real me, and vice versa.

So go ahead. It’s okay to breathe, take up space, move, consume, and give. You have the right to be here.

“Being tame is what we’re taught: … put the crayons back, stay in line, don’t talk too loud, keep your knees together, nice girls don’t…
As you might know, nice girls DO, and they like to feel wild and alive. Being tame feels safe, being wild, unsafe. Yet safety is an illusion anyway. We are not in control. No matter how dry and tame and nice we live, we will die. And we will suffer along the way. Living wild is its own reward.”
