Cowabunga!

Pretty much my dream as a little girl! I had this awesome poster hanging next to my bed:

Mind you, it was a bunk bed and even though I shared a room with my older sister, I slept on the top bunk. She was afraid, but not me. Instead, I’d climb the ladder to the top, yell “Cowabunga!” and jump off the bed. I’d do this over and over again, until my mother caught on and put a stop to it. It would’ve been perfect for me to have taken some sort of martial arts class, but we didn’t have such things then, and certainly not got girls. Not that my mother would have allowed me to do it anyhow. Instead I had ballet class and the Brownies. Do you remember Brownies? Like younger Girl Scouts, only more boring. We had to wear this:

That awful beanie had to be held on my head with about 15 bobby pins. My hair was (and still is) so slippery that it kept falling off my head. Then there were the horrible white gloves. But the dress was the worst. Don’t get me wrong, I loved dresses. I still do. But how was I supposed to kick ass in a dress that barely covered mine? It was the early 70s and hemlines were still high. I know my dress was not nearly as long as the one in the picture above. Needless to say, I didn’t enjoy my stint with the Brownies very much.

The great thing is that now there are martial arts classes for me. Maybe I’ll love it  maybe not. But I get to try. That’s the beautiful thing about life.

Haha! I think I was much braver when I was younger too. 🙂

Sending you and Anna lots of love. Please remember to take good care of yourself as Anna heals. It is so easy for a caregiver to put aside his own health. Here’s to speedy healing for Anna and hopefully your trip to Panama, etc. can be rescheduled.

    Bisous xoxo
